Welcome

Uveitis is a rare medical illness that affects vision. Uveitis is the third leading cause of preventable blindness in the developed world and one of a group of illnesses broadly classified as Ocular Inflammatory Disease (OID)  (more).

Uveitis Support | Canada

Uveitis Support | Canada was established to facilitate accessClick to order copies of our brochure to state-of-the art information in Canada about the diagnosis and treatment of ocular inflammatory disease and to be a resource for Canadian patients and physicians.  No one should lose vision because they have uveitis or other ocular inflammatory disease.  But, unfortunately, many will go blind from the disease because of the lack of information about modern, vision-preserving standards of care.

The website will link the reader to state-of the-art information about the diagnosis and treatment of ocular inflammatory disease, and to  support resources for anyone living with ocular inflammatory disease.  We recommend that you explore the website carefully; you will learn that you are not alone.   If you are a physician looking for training opportunities, or looking for resources for your patients, or a patient or parent looking information and support, you will find it here.   >>

We are indebted to Saletta Hindemith for getting all of this started.  None of this would have gotten done without her.  As the parent of a child with uveitis, she wanted to increase awareness about uveitis and make information easily accessible to all Canadians.  She has done just that by leading the way to the formation of Uveitis Support | Canada and the development of this web resource.

And, we are indebted to the physician sponsors who have encouraged this effort and contributed their valuable time and resources to insure its success:  Amin Kherani, BSc, MD, FRCSC of the Southern Alberta Eye Center (Calgary Alberta Canada) and C. Stephen Foster, M.D., FACS, FACR, of the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation and Harvard Medical School (Cambridge, MA USA).

Finally, we are grateful to members of the Uveitis/OID Support Group, especially to Frances Foster and Liz Irvin, for donating their time and talents and helping us get this project  launched.
